American Soldier Wounded in Gun Battle
A U.S. soldier was wounded during a gun battle in eastern Afghanistan, not far from the Pakistani border, the U.S. military said in a statement.
The soldier, whose name was not released, was grazed in the head by fire from an AK-47. He was treated at Bagram air base, north of Kabul, before being transferred to Landstuhl medical center in Germany.
On Dec. 21, Sgt. Steven Checo, 22, a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, was fatally shot during an operation in the eastern province of Paktika, near the Pakistani border.
