Heed Global Warning

Share

Re “Warming Up to a New Crisis,” Commentary, Jan. 25: In the past, for reasons mostly of arrogance and economics, this country has had a tendency to react only when a problem has reached the crisis stage. Examples from Pearl Harbor to Sept. 11, and even California’s energy debacle, come easily to mind. All problems that could have been anticipated should have been. This tendency has been costly in lives and money, but we’ve managed--so far.

If we don’t give early recognition to the problem of global warming, before the crisis stage, Mother Nature may not give us enough time to react or adapt to the change we have created in our environment.
