From Times Wire Reports

Nigeria’s government declared a strike by police a mutiny and ordered the army to take over “sensitive posts,” including escorts for government and embassy officials.

Police Affairs Minister Steven Akiga called the strike “the actions of misguided elements” and said it “cannot be explained as anything other than attempts to subvert this administration.”

Police in several cities walked off the job over pay and other demands. Strike leaders and some other participants were arrested, Akiga said, adding that officers taking part in the strike would face dismissal and prosecution.
