European Liberals Carp at U.S. Policy

Share

In “So What If They Hate the U.S.?” (Commentary, Jan. 31), Edward Bernard Glick nails the European liberal elite and its whining cohorts here and abroad for what they are. No longer able to significantly influence world events straightforwardly, they have been reduced to the role of carping critics. Using the media as their megaphone, they seek to retain some semblance of influence over events by arguing that America must heed world opinion.

Any U.S. slip (real, trivial or imagined) triggers an overweening outrage in the hope that we will hesitate or reverse course. They’re like jackals attempting to distract the lion long enough to snatch a crumb here and there from his meal and then creeping back into the darkness, howling in triumph after snatching even the smallest morsel of concession to illusory world opinion.
