Governor ‘Optimistic’ After Melanoma Surgery

Doctors removed a malignant melanoma from the scalp of Gov. Parris Glendening during a six-hour operation at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Dermatologist Eric Finzi said the skin cancer was detected at a very early stage and that Glendening, 59, has an “excellent prognosis.”

“My spirits are high and I am very optimistic,” Glendening said.
