Renamed Initiative
Re “Bush Blesses Charity Plan,” Feb. 8: President Bush’s Faith-Based Initiative is now renamed the Armies of Compassion Initiative? What a fine (and amazingly candid) improvement. In order to downplay the theocratic underpinnings of the earlier title, the initiative now has a name that conjures images of soldiers shooting mutilated battlefield victims, charitably putting them out of their misery. Who said irony is dead?
