From Times Wire Reports

The head of the Roman Catholic Church in Russia strongly denied that the Vatican’s decision to set up four dioceses in the country was meant to expand its influence in this mostly Orthodox Christian nation.

“I absolutely disagree with the accusation of proselytizing,” Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz said.

Although the Russian Orthodox Church stopped short of suspending contacts with the Vatican, as church officials had threatened to do, it said Catholic proselytizing was a “major obstacle” to better relations.
