3 Airports Get OK to Reopen

WASHINGTON — The Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday allowed three small Washington-area airports to reopen under stringent security rules.
College Park, Potomac and Washington Executive/Hyde were the last three airports still closed since Sept. 11.
Flights at the three airports, which serve private planes, cannot resume unless airport managers have FAA-approved security procedures in place and aircraft owners and operators undergo background checks. Pilots must obtain a confidential ID code, file a flight plan with the FAA, remain in contact with air traffic control and have a transponder to allow controllers to track the plane.
