Schools Shall Not Post Ten Commandments
A bill that would allow public schools to post the Ten Commandments on classroom walls died in a state Senate committee in Richmond.
The Senate Education and Health Committee voted, 9 to 6, to kill the bill sponsored by Republican Del. Scott Lingamfelter. Some members questioned his intent in submitting legislation similar to a Kentucky law that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional in 1980.
The measure would have required the state Board of Education to write guidelines for displaying the Ten Commandments.
