Taxpayers Can Do Better Than Rackauckas

Re “Wade: Right Choice for D.A.,” (editorial, Feb. 3):

Thank you for backing the district attorney candidate with integrity, Wally Wade. You have certainly stepped up to the plate and made the right call. I am amused that our current district attorney, Tony Rackauckas, is seeking reelection as our “tough” D.A. Is this the same man who shows no personal responsibility for what has happened under his watch? He claims that it was a “routine” audit when questioned about why the grand jury formed a committee to hear sworn testimony, investigating his practices while in office.

We, the taxpaying public, deserve better from our elected officials. This is the top law enforcement position in the county, and Orange County is the fifth-largest agency of its kind in the nation. Surely we can do better than the present bully who is using the office to further his own personal interests at our expense. Time to send him packing and get a district attorney willing to police his own and be policed, if necessary. As a civil litigator, I find our district attorney’s lack of personal accountability as the legal watchdog in the county morally reprehensible.
