Campaign for District Attorney

Share

Ron Bamieh will bring a breath of fresh air and some much-needed direction to the Ventura County district attorney’s office. I have met Bamieh, and he will make our children and our families safe by cracking down on violence, gangs and drugs. Bamieh cares about senior citizens and will ensure their safety by prosecuting and preventing elder abuse.

He is reaching out to the different communities within the county and wants to give them a voice in the district attorney’s office through his Community Prosecutor’s Program.

Bamieh has convinced me that he is the man for the job because of his record. He is truly the tough, experienced prosecutor in this race.

Greg Totten and his cronies, on the other hand, have done nothing but sling mud at Bamieh. I am always skeptical when candidates do not have much to say about themselves and instead attack their opponents. I have followed this race closely and am appalled at the way Totten is running his campaign. Bamieh has had the chance to criticize Totten for many of his actions, including trying to raise illegal campaign funds from a nonprofit organization, selfishly using the victim of a killing to gain political advantage and attempting to steal this election with the help of Totten’s old boy political network.

Bamieh has chosen to look to the future and focus on issues that are important to residents of Ventura County: crime, tough prosecution and safety in our schools. If Totten wants to win a campaign, he should address the issues people care about and stay away from political trickery and mudslinging.

It is so obvious that there is only one candidate for district attorney. Although a good trial attorney, Ron Bamieh does not have the experience it takes to run an office as large as the Ventura County district attorney’s office. He doesn’t have the experience with supervision or budget. Greg Totten does. Totten has trial experience, supervision experience and budget experience. Totten also has the desire and ability to make changes, if they are necessary and good for the office as a whole.

I work with both candidates. Totten is a good trial attorney; he is a good supervisor; he was very well respected as the executive director of the California District Attorneys Assn. for four years, and he came back to Ventura to head the administrative and fiscal division of the district attorney’s office. He is currently the No. 2 person in charge of the office. How could you have any more experience than that, other than being an elected district attorney? Totten has that experience. Bamieh only has trial attorney experience, no supervisory experience and no budget experience.

I’m not quite sure how someone can be so sure he can keep an office as large as this within budget with no budget experience. My vote is for Totten. He has the experience and the knowledge that this office needs.
