Parting Shot

Adam Berestynski demonstrated a lack of cultural and religious sensitivity when he climbed upon the head of an ancient Buddha statue to take the photo (Best Shot, Feb. 10). Even though the Taliban later destroyed these, people like Berestynski also inflict lasting damage on environmentally sensitive antiquities that deserve our respect and care.

The Times’ selection of this photo as a “best shot” is equally reprehensible. Such irreverent and detrimental behavior in quest of a good picture should not be condoned nor encouraged by publicizing photos such as his.
