Four Found Guilty of Plotting Huge Gem Heist
From Times Wire Reports
Four men were convicted of plotting to steal $285 million worth of diamonds from London’s Millennium Dome and were sentenced to 15 to 18 years in prison.
Prosecutors said the gang planned to steal gems including the 203-carat Millennium Star by breaking into the dome with an earthmover and then escaping by speedboat on the River Thames.
But police had been watching the men for months and arrested them as they tried to smash the gem case with a sledgehammer.
