Milosevic Spars With Witness at Tribunal
In a four-hour verbal battle, former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic dismissed the first witness at his war crimes trial as a liar and defended Serbian police actions in Kosovo as a fight against terrorism.
During cross-examination at the tribunal in The Hague, Milosevic sought to discredit Mahmut Bakali, an ethnic Albanian and former head of Kosovo’s Communist Party, who claimed the ex-leader destroyed Kosovo and was responsible for thousands of deaths in the province.
Milosevic is on trial on 66 counts of war crimes during the 1991-99 Balkan wars.
