Relative Says Mother Changed Before Killings
Andrea Yates went from a loving, gentle mother to an unresponsive zombie who scratched the hair off her head and walked endlessly around in circles as she fell into a depression so dark that she drowned her five children, mother-in-law Dora Yates testified.
In a trial that could send Andrea Yates to death row, Dora Yates blasted prosecutors for seeking the death penalty. Yates, 37, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to two charges of capital murder.
“Andrea is a very gentle person and a very loving person and she is very creative with the children, or was,” Dora Yates said.
