Abandoned Babies Cry for Help

Share

“Once Discarded, Now Loved” (editorial, Feb. 18) touched my heart very much. It amazes me that there are so many people out there who actually care more about themselves than the little innocent children who come out of them. I do understand that it might have been a mistake for the woman or girl to get pregnant or that she doesn’t have the financial ability to support the child, but it gives her no right to abandon the child. As you say, there are many other ways to give up the baby.

This country offers many different facilities to go to when in need of help. Society has to teach our youngsters while they are young, so they will learn and not take the wrong actions later on. Yes, it is true that parenting is a difficult duty, but if you choose to learn, it won’t be so bad after all.

Society has not done enough to prevent the tragic abandonment of babies. There are a growing number of incidents in which mothers dump their babies into dumpsters. It is horrific that it happens, but the way to solve the problem is not by publicizing the safe haven laws (allowing delivery of newborns to hospitals without any questions asked). There ought to be more publicity of birth control, condoms and abstinence. Some of these may seem extreme, but if our society really wants to stop the alarming increase of dumpster babies, then extreme measures need to be taken into account.
