From Times Wire Reports

An unspecified threat against the Liberty Bell prompted authorities to tighten security in Philadelphia’s popular historic district.

The National Park Service and city police added patrols at the Independence National Historic Park, which includes the Liberty Bell pavilion and Independence Hall, and nearby federal properties including the U.S. Mint and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. Park facilities remained open.

“We got information from our headquarters in Washington that there’s an unspecified threat to destroy the Liberty Bell,” said FBI special agent Linda Vizi.

The bell was attacked last April by a mentally disturbed man wielding a metal mallet. He told authorities that his act was intended to glorify God.
