Court Orders New Trial in 1991 Fatal Stabbing
More than a decade after serious racial violence scarred the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, a federal appeals court threw out the convictions of two men who were found guilty in the fatal stabbing of a Jewish scholar.
The U.S. 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals, citing irregularities in the jury selection, ordered a new trial for Lemrick Nelson Jr., 27, and 47-year-old Charles Price, the two black men charged in connection with the attack.
Nelson was convicted of killing Yankel Rosenbaum, a 29-year-old Hasidic scholar from Australia. Price was convicted of provoking rioters.
