KROQ Keeps a Firm Hold of No. 1, but KPWR Loses Grip

Rock station KROQ-FM (106.7) retained its top-dog status among Southland radio outlets during the final months of 2001, the Arbitron ratings service reported Wednesday. It was the third quarter in a row that KROQ was No. 1.

But the station with which it shared that position during the summer, hip-hop outlet KPWR-FM (105.9), fell to seventh place in the latest survey of listeners over the age of 12, conducted between Sept. 20 and Dec. 12. Its share of audience tumbled by nearly 15%.

With KPWR’s plunge, Top 40 station KIIS-FM (102.7) moved into the No. 2 position, followed by KKBT-FM (100.3).

In fourth place overall was Spanish-language station KSCA-FM (101.9).
