Couple Being Watched After Eating Mushrooms
From Times Wire Reports
A couple who ate “death cap” mushrooms are being watched for signs of liver failure.
The unidentified couple, described as experienced mushroom hunters in their 50s, ate the Amanita phalloides mushroom, which can destroy the liver. If they show signs of liver failure, they may need liver transplants.
The couple reportedly picked the mushrooms when they were visiting relatives in Watsonville. They prepared and ate a stew Tuesday. Hours later, they began suffering from nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and severe cramps, and checked into a local hospital.
