What Are You Drinking?

“The ’97 Shafer Cabernet ‘Hillside Select.’ It’s complex but balanced; it has nice harmony. Winemakers tend to like wines that are still fairly young--we have production palates. So I see the ageability of the wine, and I think it’s going to continue to improve. Elias Fernandez is a great winemaker, and is a friend, and it’s always nice to taste a friend’s wine. We had it with a lamb stew the other night, and it was really lovely.”
