Bush OKs Coast Guard Reservist Call-Up
Times Wire Services
President Bush authorized Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta to call up Coast Guard reservists to protect the U.S. coast against terrorist attacks.
Bush signed an executive order giving Mineta the authority to “manage personnel requirements in a manner consistent” with a Sept. 14 order that allowed Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld to use military reservists for the war on terrorism.
White House officials said the order allows Mineta to call up Coast Guard reservists for coastal patrol duties.
