It took two years for owner Jeff Beuth to turn this simple tract house into a custom, Zen-like contemporary in a lush greenbelt with lots of bamboo.

“I acted as the designer and picked all of the finish products ranging from windows, doors, faucets, handles, paint colors, appliances, stucco type, flooring, tile, plate covers, fireplace finishes and plants,” Beuth said. “Additionally, I furnished and decorated the house.”

Beuth, 35, rebuilt the house through his City Corp. Ventures, which has bought, remodeled and resold more than 150 houses since 1995. His 37-year-old brother, Randy, is a Hollywood cameraman who helped form, and works part-time, for the building company.

For this project, the brothers hired Norm Simon of Corner Construction in Los Angeles to be the architect and builder.

About this house: The original house was built in 1951 and was 3,375 square feet. “I added approximately 1,400 square feet and, as you can tell, did a thorough remodel, which took the old house down to a few studs,” Jeff Beuth said.

Asking price: $3,895,000, not including furnishings

Size: Five bedrooms and six bathrooms in 4,700 square feet, on a 27,400-square-foot lot overlooking the city

Features: Skylights, blond maple hardwood floors; four indoor fireplaces and one outdoors; a media room with sliding doors to an infinity pool and spa; a master suite with a sitting area, spa tub, two-sided fireplace, steam room and limestone shower; four closed-circuit security cameras, computer-controlled lighting and sound; city and ocean views from almost every room.

The house’s Zen-like quality is due to its minimal style and Balinese influences. Feng shui was considered in its design, which incorporates natural stones and earth tones.
