Kursk Investigators Find Preserved Documents

From Times Wire Reports

Investigators trying to determine what sank the Kursk nuclear submarine say they have been surprised to find many documents preserved by water and are hoping to find the ship’s log. That could provide the key to what caused the disaster.

Lead investigator Artur Yegiyev said the papers survived because water instantly flooded the control room after it was ripped open by a blast, putting out flames.

Since the Kursk was raised from the Barents Sea floor and put in a dry dock in October, investigators have been examining the wreck for human remains and clues about what brought down the vessel in August 2000, killing all 118 crewmen.
