Georgian President Eduard A. Shevardnadze pardoned three men who tried to assassinate him in 1995, a government official said.

Rusiko Beridze, deputy secretary of the Security Council, said Shevardnadze signed a decree Friday that freed the men from prison terms ranging from 10 to 15 years.

The three were convicted of planting a bomb in a car in Shevardnadze’s motorcade on Aug. 29, 1995. Shevardnadze was hit by flying glass but not seriously hurt.
