A woman who helped her 19-year-old nephew and his wife with a suicide pact that left him dead was sentenced to six months in jail.

Mary Wendland, 42, admitted in court in St. Johns to giving her nephew, Patrick Holey, and his wife, Jennifer, also 19, anti-nausea medicine to combat the effects of painkillers they took in an effort to kill themselves April 9.

Wendland, who pleaded guilty to attempted assisted suicide, had faced up to two years in prison.

The drugs were allegedly supplied by Wendland’s sister-in-law, Kathleen Holey, Patrick Holey’s mother.

She allegedly told her son and daughter-in-law that suicide was the only solution to their problems. The young couple had faced charges of raping a 14-year-old girl. Kathleen Holey still faces trial in connection with her son’s death.

Jennifer Holey pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct last month.
