7 Cabinet Ministers Replaced in Shake-Up

South Korean President Kim Dae Jung replaced the prime minister and six other Cabinet members today in a government reshuffle after a deadly clash at sea last month with North Korea.

Chang Sang, a former university official, was named prime minister, the first woman to hold the post in the nation. Retired Gen. Lee Jun was named defense minister.

Also affected were the justice, tourism, information, health and maritime affairs ministries.

The two Koreas’ June 29 skirmish in the Yellow Sea left four Southern sailors dead.
