New Delhi Preparing Its Reply to Kashmir Attack
India, condemning an attack on a Kashmir slum that killed 27 as “terrorism in its most naked form,” said it would give its full reply today, as tensions rose again with its neighbor Pakistan.
Five attackers--two disguised in the saffron robes worn by Hindu holy men--opened fire on a crowd watching a televised cricket match between India and England. The killers then barged into nearby huts, shooting wildly.
Pakistan swiftly condemned the massacre, which it said seemed to have been designed to escalate tensions between the two nations.
