From Times Wire Reports

Prosecutors demanded a 15-year jail term for the youngest son of ex-dictator Suharto, surprising many who expected him to face a death sentence for allegedly ordering the assassination of a judge.

Hutomo Mandala Putra, better known as Tommy, is accused of masterminding the 2001 slaying of Syaifudin Kartasasmita, a Supreme Court judge who sentenced him to 18 months in prison in 2000 for a real estate scam.

Tommy has denied wrongdoing. If found guilty, he could still receive the death penalty despite the prosecutors’ more lenient demand. The court is scheduled to decide later this month whether to convict him.
