“A ’99 Cote Rotie. The producer was Jean-Michel Gerin--one of his vineyard-designated wines. It was not only a very nice wine but special because in 2000, we had sent our winemaker to the Rhone Valley. When he was there, he tasted this wine out of the barrel. So he gave a bottle of it to me for Christmas. It’s very concentrated with forward fruit, raspberries, blueberries. It has a nice smoky character and a slight earthy and mineral quality, a very complex wine with lots of good fruit and concentration.”
