If schools were such a great thing, we wouldn’t have to force kids to go to them. The current schools have a prison-like atmosphere that breeds all sorts of unnatural behaviors, even in the “best.”
Year after year of attempts at school reform have not improved our students--we know that. Why keep trying variations on the same theme?
A better idea would be to turn school buildings into community learning centers where attendance is voluntary and there’s no grading. We all know kids can learn whatever they set their minds to; they just need a little help now and then.
