“The 2000 Elaine Mackie Zinfandel. I hired Elaine in 1990 when I was president of the Napa Valley Vintners Assn. to be the executive director. She was one of those fireballs, always a smile on her face. She died of breast cancer in 1995 at age 39. Her husband and others set up the Elaine Mackie Charitable Trust, and they do a lot of fund-raisers. This is the trust’s first wine--that’s why it’s so memorable. Elaine was a nut about Zinfandel. It’s marvelous, really quite good. They only made 300 cases--my wife bought a case of it. It’s not only a good cause, but a good wine too.”
