Preschool Funding

Share

Thank you for “Shortage of Preschools in Southland Grows” (July 19). With all the attention given to shoring up our state’s economy these days, I am shocked that legislators aren’t jumping to fix this key building block, an industry that contributes more than $5 billion to the state’s economy. Instead, child care remains the only part of our educational system where we expect parents to shoulder the full financial burden. Right now it costs twice as much to have an infant in care than a kid at UC Berkeley.
