Brit Widowed by 9/11 Wins U.S. Residency
A British woman who faced deportation after her husband was killed in the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center will be allowed to stay in the U.S. after being awarded permanent residency status, her lawyer said.
The Immigration and Naturalization Service gave Deena Gilbey, 39, a green card, allowing for permanent residency.
Gilbey and her two U.S.-born children live in Chatham, N.J.
The INS had threatened to deport Gilbey after her husband, Paul, who worked in the World Trade Center at a brokerage firm, died trying to help people after the attacks.
