Cabinet to Ratify Treaty Banning Land Mines
AFGHANISTAN

Afghanistan, the world’s most mined country, said it would sign a global treaty banning the use of land mines as soon as possible and called on the international community for help in clearing millions of anti-personnel devices.
Foreign Minister Abdullah told a news conference that the Cabinet would probably ratify the treaty in a few days, making Afghanistan the 126th nation to do so since the pact was launched in 1997.
The Mine Action Center for Afghanistan estimates that up to 300 people are killed or wounded by the devices every month.
