From Times Wire Reports

Firefighters went door-to-door deciding which homes they could save, and residents packed up photo albums and other important materials as an explosive wildfire led to evacuation warnings for 17,000 people in southwestern Oregon.

Residents of the Illinois Valley were told to prepare for possible evacuation as the Florence fire continued to expand through the Siskiyou National Forest.

The fire continued to push south on a course to link up with the Sour Biscuit fire. If they connect, they will create a 25-mile-long front running parallel to U.S. Highway 199, about three miles west of Cave Junction and the communities of Selma, Kerby and O’Brien.
