* Avon Products Inc. said second-quarter sales will increase by about 4% because of higher revenue in the U.S. and Europe. Its shares rose 5.2%. Second-quarter earnings will increase to about 63 cents a share, the average forecast of analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial/First Call, from 57 cents, the company said.

* Smithfield Foods Inc., the world’s biggest pork producer, said fiscal fourth-quarter profit fell 53% as a glut of meat and weaker demand eroded hog prices. Net income in the three months ended April 28 fell to $24.9 million, or 22 cents a share. Sales rose 30% to $1.96 billion.

* Priceline.com Inc. agreed to buy the trademarks and Web addresses for financier Carl Icahn’s Lowestfare.com Inc. Terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed. Priceline.com will make its travel sales available through the Lowestfare.com Web site, the company said. Lowestfare.com stopped selling airline tickets in recent months as its business slowed after the September terrorist attacks.
