The White House is planning a concert at the Kennedy Center to commemorate the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The National Symphony Orchestra and as-yet-undetermined artists will perform for two hours at the Center on Sept. 9, and the event will be broadcast on television two days later.
The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, whose honorary chair is First Lady Laura Bush, approved the preliminary concept in April.
“We all agreed, wouldn’t it be a wonderful thing to do ‘A Concert for America 2002,’ ” Henry Moran, the committee’s executive director, told the Washington Post.
