Fans Rampage After TV Is Turned Off
Thousands of fans at Fuzhou, a city in the southeastern part of the country, overturned police cars and a bus and tore down street signs after a public television screen was switched off just before China’s game against Brazil on Saturday night.
A Fuzhou police officer said the broadcast was halted to disperse the crowd, which was blocking traffic in front of a public park where a theater-sized screen had been set up.
The violence lasted about two hours, but police did not make any arrests. China lost, 4-0.
