Roots of Violence

Your recent articles on Colombia (Opinion, March 3) say little about the systemic causes of the conflict in that country: the enforced poverty of the exploited majority, its domination by a tiny, wealthy elite and the strenuous efforts of the U.S. government to reinforce this unjust situation for its own selfish purposes. The reading public needs a deeper analysis of global capitalism if we are to halt the continuing erosion of our democratic ideals and reduce the level of irrational violence in this world.
