From Times Staff Reports

George Caravalho, Santa Clarita’s city manager for the last 14 years, is a finalist for the same position in the city of Riverside, according to officials in both cities.

Caravalho, 63, who joined the city of Santa Clarita six months after it was incorporated, had previously been a city manager in Bakersfield and San Clemente. Also in the running in Riverside are city officials in Yuma, Ariz., and Reno.

A decision on the Riverside job, which has been open since July, could be made by Friday. In May, Caravalho came under fire from some Santa Clarita council members over concerns that residents were being overcharged for garbage service.
