A contractor faces up to three years in prison after pleading guilty to filing false income tax returns, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.

Gary Lee Morris, 60, who had operated a construction business under various names, including Morris General Building Co., admitted Monday that he hid thousands of dollars in several bank accounts and faked his accounting records for tax years 1994 and 1995.

Morris, who was released from custody on his promise to return to court, concealed the money to keep Bankruptcy Court from seizing it, prosecutors said.

He had filed for personal bankruptcy in 1995.
