Central Bank Chief Sentenced for Graft

A court sentenced the head of Indonesia’s central bank to three years in prison for his role in a multimillion-dollar corruption and election campaign finance scam.
Sjahril Sabirin, however, said he would not resign his post and would appeal--a move that will let him remain free at least until a higher court reviews his case.
Under Indonesian law, only parliament can dismiss the bank governor. How this would be achieved is unclear: Its speaker, Akbar Tanjung, is in custody awaiting trial for a separate graft case.
