Airport Surcharge for NIMBY Nabobs

I think David W. Kay (letter, March 8) is on to something by suggesting a $50 surcharge for Orange County residents who use either LAX or Ontario airports. However, I have one better for him. The fee should be directly proportionate to the percentage that one’s city voted for Measure W. For example, Aliso Viejo would have the highest fee of $93, while Newport Beach would have the lowest fee of $15. Since I am from Huntington Beach, I would be obliged to pay $39.

Now sure, South County cities would have the highest fees overall. But this should not be a major problem. Especially when one considers that they raised millions of dollars promoting a phony “Great Park” proposal that they knew the Navy would never support. So what’s a little extra fee to the folks from wealthy enclaves like Monarch Beach and Coto de Caza?
