Wildfire Near Denver Prompts Evacuations
From Times Wire Reports
COLORADO
A wind-whipped wildfire forced the evacuation of more than 2,400 dwellings as it spread toward subdivisions about 26 miles west of Denver, where thick smoke was visible.
The Jefferson County sheriff’s office was trying to evacuate houses within a 2-mile radius of the 100-acre blaze, which was of uncertain origin.
Officials said gusting winds grounded air tankers and hampered firefighters’ efforts to contain the blaze.
