Levandusky Cut by Sparks

The Sparks cut four players Monday, one from last year’s team. But they also welcomed to training camp one of last year’s players, who was playing in Europe, and added three free agents.

The defending WNBA champions waived 5-foot-6 guard Kim Williams, a two-year WNBA veteran who played with Utah in 1998; 6-1 forward Kelly Siemon, who played on Notre Dame’s 2001 national championship team and was drafted by the Sparks but sat out last season; 6-1 forward Jackie Higgins, the Sparks’ second-round pick in the April draft; and 5-8 guard Nicole Levandusky, who was on last year’s team.

Levandusky was a second-round draft pick from Xavier. She played sparingly with the Sparks in 2001, appearing in 13 games and averaging 1.5 points as one of the last players off Coach Michael Cooper’s bench. Rejoining the team is 6-1 Vedrana Grgin Fonseca, whose team in Spain finished its season.

Invited to camp were Shala Crawford, Vicki Hall and Naomi Mulitauaopele, players waived by Houston, Indiana and Utah.
