Chicken Dumplings, Rice Footballs

Share

For fast, fresh Chinese dumplings and pastries, stop by Dim Sum Express. This orange-and-yellow takeout stand posts its menu up front, Chinese on one side, English on the other. We liked five items we tried: wor-tiep gow, pan-fried dumplings stuffed with chicken and vegetables; pork-filled sui mai; barbecued pork su gok, a baked triangle of glazed flaky pastry with pork inside; hom suy gok, golden brown fried “footballs” of chewy rice flour dough stuffed with chicken; and, for dessert, an egg-custard tart.

The stand also offers noodle and rice dishes and assorted drinks. Try the tapioca honeydew, a pale green, lightly sweetened boba drink with brown tapioca pearls.

Dim sum from 55 cents (crispy egg roll) to $2 (chicken and rice wrap). At Dim Sum Express, 326 N. Garfield Ave., Monterey Park. (626) 307-5800. 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
