New Life for L.A. 2012 Bid?

A change in the status of U.S. Olympic Committee President Sandra Baldwin could bring a renewal in efforts by the Los Angeles bid committee to bring the Summer Olympics to L.A. in 2012.

Last fall, the USOC chose New York, Houston, Washington and San Francisco as semifinalists in the race to be the United States’ candidate before International Olympic Committee voters for the 2012 Games. The Los Angeles bid was eliminated and its committee disbanded.

But sources said Thursday that the Los Angeles committee had evidence that it was Baldwin who was most influential in rejecting the L.A. bid and that, were she no longer in office, a request to the USOC to revisit the Los Angeles bid would be a consideration.

The USOC will vote on its 2012 candidate in November, and the IOC will vote on that Olympic site in 2005.
