Teacher-Bashing 101

Re “Teachers Union Bosses Have Forgotten Civics Lessons,” May 23: George Skelton must be feeling good today after taking on the big and powerful teachers union. Imagine the big union wanting teachers to have something to say about the selection of textbooks for their students. As if they know something about kids and how they learn. Scandalous!

Imagine the big union wanting a decent, barely out-of-poverty-level salary for beginning teachers. Outrageous! Imagine the big union wanting a decent retirement system for teachers, when many elderly retired teachers today barely make ends meet. What nerve!

Finally, imagine teachers not wanting to be held accountable for students whose parents do not much care to be involved in their kids’ education. Unbelievable!
