Regarding “Mistaking Trees for a Forest?” (May 23) and the demise of our wild, forested areas in Tennessee, California and beyond:

If consumers simply cut back their use and demand, destroying the slow-growing oaks, hickories and other hardwoods for the likes of computer paper would slow. All of these problems aren’t always with the perpetrators of the clear-cutting.
